    Pietersite is a member of the Quartz family, a silicon dioxide mineral with a hardness of 7. Its
    crystal system is hexagonal (trigonal). It forms in pseudomorphic Jasper inclusions after
    asbestos.
    Color: It carries dramatic chatoyance and contrasting colors with hues of brown, gray, blue-
    gray, black gold and colorless parts.
    Meaning: Pietersite was named by its finder Sid Pieters, after his father ‘Louis Pieters’.
